Something interesting that I spotted in the Amazing Oriental on the Grote Marktstraat – a hot snack machine. The machine is sometimes called an automatiek (English Wikipedia).
For the moment the only option looks to be a bag of 10 mini spring rolls for €1.60. You can either pay with coins – exact change only – or with your debit card. Here’s hoping they start offering a bit more variety!

Now I am curious. I wonder how they taste?
I haven’t had the spring rolls from this machine, but I’m going to guess like “fast food” spring rolls. That’s not a bad thing, mind you. There’s a lot to be said for fast, hot and ready to be eaten right away. I’m basing that off similar mini spring rolls we purchased at a different toko in The Hague, though. They hit the spot when we needed a quick bite before hopping in the tram.
Now, if you want tasty you should try the onigri at the food counter at any of the Amazing Orientals. Those are always great, especially the karage/fried chicken version.
Now you’ve got me really curious. I love onigiri.
