This morning Marco and I walked over to Megastores and a few stores in the surrounding area to do some Saturday shopping.

Megastores has always been an interesting mall. Most of the stores are furniture related, with some additional everyday stores like Hema, Blokker, Big Bazar and Xenos. They have had issues with unoccupied stores throughout the years, although we didn’t see as many this time. However in general it is the same issue American malls have: walk down the “wrong” wing and you will find yourself in a ghost town.
In other news:
- We had pretty blue skies today! After a week of more rain than dry, that is very welcome. It is nice to come home and not feel like you have to jump into the shower right away.
- Here’s a good reason to work from home: Working from home one day a week could save the Netherlands billions (iamexpat.nl). I could go for that… could you?
- Irma Sluis Sluis: World’s largest sea lock could be named for sign interpreter from nltimes.nl. You remember Irma Sluis, the sign language interpreter who rose to fame due to her ‘hoarding’ sign? Well, in Dutch “sluis” is also the translation for “lock”, so when the public was asked to name the the sea lock before its opening in 2022, a lot of people went with her name as the obvious choice. (However, before you get your hopes up I will let you know her name won’t be chosen. A person needs to be dead at least 10 years to have their name chosen for something like this.)
