Before there were chapter books like Het geheim van de verliefde hulpkok, there were picture books like Tien kleine heksjes (10 little witches). Marco and I had gone to Amsterdam Public Library, and we stopped at the children’s section for this photo.
You can see more pictures of the children’s section of the library by looking at one of the first posts I wrote for this blog.
Cool. I came across this picture the other day as well.
I remember how difficult some of the words and sounds were for you at the time (a mere two years ago)
I think right now you’d fly through the book’s pages, summarize it in Dutch in 3 sentences and be able to write the sequel. 😉
Probably. That sounds like a fun project if time wasn’t our enemy (other projects to do). 😉
I would love to have that book for my collection. You know of course Niki, I am mad about books. All books. I found a children’s book – a big fat one – published in the late l800’s. Some of the pictures and stories are a little on the scary side. The pages are very thick and brown with aged. I love it. Virginia
Yeah, that far back, the children’s stories were actually scary…
I personally grew up with the Goosebumps series:
