Party time (Or: Photos from the Life I Live festival, 2024)

First: today is the first jacket-less day of the year! Bring on summer!

Second: we had an awesome thunderstorm in the middle of the night last night. Both Marco and I woke up to the loud crash of nearby thunder and then stayed awake for a while listening to the storm. This is newsworthy because proper thunderstorms are quite rare in this part of Europe.

Back to the blog post: The Hague was host to the Life I Live festival last Friday, held on the night before King’s Day (and back in the day, Queen’s Day) every year. Here are some of the photos Marco graciously took for this blog. He’s tall so he usually can get the camera over everyone’s heads. Thank you Marco!

First up was the Dutch band Droom dit (Dream this). See also Dutch Wikipedia. The podium was at Lange Voorhout.

Here is the band Chibi Ichigo. See also Dutch Wikipedia. This podium was also at Lange Voothout, but at the other end. Kind of a funny moment to take a picture if you ask me.

Next up we have the band One White Dog, which was a blues band. They don’t have a Wikipedia page. The podium was a bit smaller and at the Hofvijver (you can’t see it but the water would be on the right side). Check out the skyline as well.

And the final band we saw, at the Grote Markt, although you can’t really see them in this photo. This area was very busy and very crowded (to be expected) with gates and bag checks, so we stayed on the outside. Not a problem since you could hear them perfectly fine. The band’s name is the Meltheads. Dutch Wikipedia lists them as garage and postpunk. Marco had seen them before as they were in the support act for another band he saw, dEUS.

The green sign above is pretty sturdy. I saw a mother on the outside of the sign help her kid onto her shoulders, right before the sign. The mother then walked under the sign, causing the kid to whack its head against the sign audibly. The kid didn’t cry though, so it probably didn’t hurt that much. Definitely a wince moment, though.

And lastly, a beautiful picture of the lights above the Grote Markt street, colored red, white and blue for the holiday:
